Sustainable Livelihoods & Food Security

Building economic resilience through agriculture, enterprise, and community self-reliance

Pradeepan promotes agriculture-based livelihoods, women-led enterprises, and skill development to build economic resilience among tribal and marginalized communities. We believe food security extends beyond access to sufficient food — it encompasses the availability of healthy, safe, sustainable, and environmentally responsible food systems.

Key Interventions

Self-Help Groups & Producer Groups

SHGs and producer groups formed with bank linkages and income-generation activities including dairy, poultry, beekeeping, incense stick making, tailoring, and food processing.

Seed Distribution & Organic Farming

Seeds provided to 2,000 farmers for cultivation. Over 8,500 farmers made aware of organic farming practices through meetings, training sessions, and awareness campaigns.

Organic Fertilizer Infrastructure

200 Nadep compost units, 200 vermicompost units, and 1,000 earthen pot compost units constructed across 50 villages to demonstrate and promote organic fertilizer use.

Irrigation & MGNREGA

Under the MGNREGA scheme, Kapila Dhara wells were constructed, increasing the area under Rabi crops (chickpea, wheat) and improving irrigation facilities for smallholder farmers.

Village Grain Banks (Gram Kosh)

Grain banks established in 20 villages, each storing 8–10 quintals of grain to prevent hunger and distress migration. The World Food Programme (WFP) Bhopal office produced a short film on Pradeepan's grain bank initiative, which was telecasted multiple times on Doordarshan (DD1) in the 'Kiran' programme.

Village Funds

Village funds established in 20 villages with ₹60,000 to ₹1 lakh each, freeing tribal communities from exploitative moneylender practices. These funds allow tribals to access money for emergencies, education, agriculture, and other needs at fair terms.
